The Best Time to Visit Southwest Florida

Southwest Florida does not really have four seasons. It has a dry season from roughly November to April and a wet season from roughly June to September, with May and October as the turn. Almost every question about when to come is answered by which of those you are standing in.

Dry season: November to April

This is the postcard. Warm, sunny days through the 70s and 80s, low humidity, calm Gulf water, and the cold fronts that stir up the best shelling after they pass. It is also peak season: lodging, restaurants and tee times book up, and rates climb — especially from December through April. If you want a specific home over a holiday week, book it months ahead.

Spring: March to June

March through June is the sweet spot many repeat guests aim for. Daytime temperatures sit comfortably in the 80s, and you arrive after the winter "season" pricing has eased but before the summer humidity settles in. It is the best stretch for a week that mixes beach days, golf and a sunset dinner without either a crowd or a downpour.

Wet season: May to October

Summer is hot and humid with brief, reliable afternoon storms and very warm Gulf water. It is also the cheapest time to book a large home, and families with young children often prefer the warmer water and the empty beaches. Do keep an indoor plan B.

About hurricane season

Hurricane season runs June to November, but the risk is not spread evenly: the great majority of storms fall in August, September and October.
