Marco Island

Beach time, Calusa history and a gateway to coastal island adventures.

Get to know Marco Island

Things to do in Marco Island, Florida

Marco Island combines beach outings with local history and access to the surrounding coastal waters. A visit can be as simple as a beach morning and museum afternoon, or a carefully planned boat trip. Keep island beach activities distinct from Everglades excursions: launch points, routes and transport arrangements need their own planning.

Places to explore

01

Tigertail Beach Park

Collier County lists birdwatching, shelling, tidal-pool exploration and a playground among the park’s features. Check current conditions and access before choosing it for a beach day.

02

Marco Island Historical Museum

Explore the island’s Calusa heritage, the Key Marco Cat and the area’s development. An indoor history visit is a useful complement to the beach and a fallback when weather changes.

Kayaker paddling through mangrove islands

03

Ten Thousand Islands outings

Explore the region’s mangrove islands and coastal waters with a suitable operator or a carefully planned paddling route. Consult National Park Service Gulf Coast information for Everglades routes; not every island excursion departs from Marco.

Beaches & outdoors

Tigertail and South Marco are county-listed beach destinations. Consult current park notices and beach information for access and facilities. For paddling, check weather, tides, route requirements and your experience level; a mangrove-island trip should not be treated as an improvised beach walk.

Families & rainy days

The Historical Museum provides an indoor cultural outing, while Mackle Park offers outdoor recreation in suitable weather. Families can plan a short beach visit and one additional stop instead of committing to a long boat trip. Check age, safety and weather requirements with any excursion operator.

Plan your visit

Planning a visit to Marco Island, Florida
  • Verify beach access and parking on Collier County’s current pages before departure.
  • Check your boat departure point and return arrangements. Keewaydin is boat-access only, not a place you can drive to from Marco.
  • For Everglades paddling, consult National Park Service alerts and route information, and use a qualified guide when the route exceeds your experience.
